    AM: Punta Suarez, Española Island

Due to Española’s isolation from other islands, Punta Suarez has a high proportion of endemic fauna. A few steps inland from the landing site, groups of sea lions and marine iguanas bask in the sun. Nazca and blue-footed boobies nest near the trail, Galapagos doves and finches go about their day-to-day business. The cracks in the cliffs are home to swallow-tailed gulls and spectacular red-billed tropicbirds. Further up the cliff in an area of low-lying trees you will find the world’s largest colony of waved albatross. Admire the island’s dramatic backdrop, featuring the famous soplador, a seaward blowhole that shoots water some 23 meters (75 feet) in the air. Difficulty level: Difficult.

This island features a few endemic plants including scalesia villosa, Galapagos daisies, white and black mangrove and holy stick.  Difficulty level: Easy.

    AM: Chinese Hat

Chinese hat is an island consisting of a cone type splatter (lava ejected as drops and falls close to where it came from, which forms a cone inclined) that forms the summit and many lava tubes that go down to the coast.

On the west side you can see pillow-type lava formations, an indicator that the flows were formed under the sea and have been raised upward, which is why coral heads are found on the lava. This visit provides an excellent opportunity for the interpretation of geological features such as lava tubes and lava flows. The trail is 700 meters (2,100 feet) (round trip) and it takes minimum of 30 minutes.

    PM: Bartolomé Island

A fascinating moonscape dotted with volcanic formations such as lava tubes and spatter, tuff and cinder cones. Hike up a short, somewhat steep trail while encountering pioneer plants, lava cacti, scalesia plants, marine iguanas and lava lizards. The view from the top is the true prize: Iconic Pinnacle Rock next to golden beaches and turquoise waters. Returning through dunes and mangroves, reach the north shore where you can usually see penguins. This is a great opportunity to see sea turtles, sea lions, rays and whitetip reef sharks among a great variety of colorful schools of fish. This may turn out to be your best snorkeling experience as the water here is generally clear, has small surf and is full of marine life. Difficulty level: Moderate.

You will also encounter the one and only Galapagos hybrid Iguana. Stumble upon a bright red landscape characteristic of the island during the dry season (June-January) when the succulent plant sesuvium edmonstonei turns red (it is usually green or yellow). Difficulty level: Intermediate.

    PM: North Seymour Island

Snorkelers will enjoy their last underwater experience before landing on North Seymour, the flattest island you’ll visit.  The trail at North Seymour heads inland where you can see the largest colony of magnificent frigatebirds in Galapagos, blue-footed boobies and occasionally land iguanas.
